The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign (Nov 25 - Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).

Following our 5B's pledge to combat Gender Based Violence (GBV), the Women of Westminster (WOW) Colleagues network is organising a virtual event to be held on 8 December 2021 at 4.00pm to 5.15pm.

Our speaker, Harriet Wistrich, will be looking at misogyny in the criminal justice system and the use of strategic litigation to challenge this. Among her notable cases are acting for the eight women who brought claims against the Metropolitan Police on deceived relationships; acting for two rape victims of taxi driver John Woboys; acting for victims of sex trafficking.

About the speaker:

Harriet Wistrich is a very active solicitor and Director of the 'Centre for Women's Justice' (CWJ). The Centre for Women’s Justice is a charity, founded in 2016. They aim to bring together specialist lawyers, academics and other experts in the field of violence against women, with those working on the frontline as activists, survivors and service providers to bring strategic law challenges and ensure access to justice for victims of violence.

CWJ has recently developed an anti-racism strategy with a number of fresh initiatives. One of these initiatives is a new mentoring scheme for Black, Asian and minoritised women. For more information on the work of the CWJ please visit their website on
