Tackling Gender Based Violence (GBV) and The Role of Toxic Masculinity

Tackling Gender Based Violence and the role of toxic masculinity will be run by two key speakers, Jodie Das & Bryan Bonaparte who have worked in the field.

This is the first in a series of events that look to collaborating with ally's and actioning Gender Based Violence awareness and educational initiatives. 

The University’s colleague network 'Women of Westminster' (WOW) is very keen to tackle any form of "violence" on campus whilst promoting a culture shift in behaviours.

Our Speakers

Jodie Das is a researcher, practitioner, educator and consultant who has worked in the field of domestic violence and abuse prevention. She is committed to educating and empowering practitioners across multiple professional disciplines, through the development of compassionate and critically reflective practice. Jodie is a doctoral student in the School of Social Sciences completing a Professional Doctorate in Health Sciences. Through Critical Participatory Action Research, she is developing an emerging framework (CRAFT), based on the key principle of compassion. The aim is to transform practice toward more equitable, ethical and socially just outcomes when working preventative with domestic violence and abuse. 

Bryan Bonaparte is a Senior Lecturer in Social, Educational and Clinical Psychology in the School of Social Sciences. His research interests include exploration of toxicity in the ways in which masculinity is defined and socially constructed. He is co-investigator on the Society for Research in Higher Education project ‘Developing Compassionate Pedagogy with Students as Co-researchers’. Bryan is co-founder of Psychology at the Movies where psychology is discussed via the subjective lens of popular films and is also co-chair of the non-profit social enterprise Black Britain and Beyond.
