Investors play a significant role in the startup ecosystem. For many entrepreneurs, raising money from them is what getting into startups is all about, a must for getting a business up and running. So, how do you get in front of investors who can give your startup the funding it needs? This session will take you through the different types of investor, how to target them and the mistakes to avoid when trying to pitch an investor for the first time.

About the speaker:

Karen Winton is a co-founder of VoXo, an online platform offering training and using data to connect women to speaking opportunities. Her previous roles encompassed venture capital with Hong Kong-headquartered firm Nest where she opened its first overseas office in London in 2015 and helped UK-based high growth early-stage tech companies with business models relevant to Asia and Africa find funding and other support.

She also spent six years with the Hong Kong Government, spearheading a global campaign to attract startup founders to scale their businesses from Hong Kong. Karen began her career in business journalism in London and moved to Hong Kong in 1990, where she held positions with publishers Fairfax Media Ltd and The Economist Group. In 2003, she launched an independent custom publishing business with US partners. She holds a Bachelor's Degree with Honours in History from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
