Homesickness can be described as the pain we experience when we miss home. Being somewhere new brings about discomfort; in this discomfort, you long for something predictable, consistent and stable. Although homesickness is a natural reaction, it may become overwhelming and interrupt daily functioning. Feelings of homesickness are similar to that of anxiety or depression.

Your body may be triggered into feeling ‘unsafe’ in a new environment, or you may feel a sense of loss similar to grief.

Using the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), this interactive workshop will explain how becoming socially well, i.e., creating and maintaining connections in the community, may help to alleviate symptoms of homesickness. In addition, practical tools and strategies will be shared on how to boost social wellness.
