In this one-hour talk, Dr. Lori will explore the complexities of identity and allyship, focusing on the intersection of being both BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) and LGBTQ+. Through her experience as an artist, academic, and diversity specialist, Dr. Lori will share her insights on how we can build stronger connections and foster allyship across different communities.
About the Speaker
Dr. Ope Lori is an accomplished visual artist, diversity expert and educator. She founded PILAA in 2017 and has since worked with esteemed clients including Tate, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and the Courtauld. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and she has held academic positions at Chelsea School of Arts and Leeds Arts University. Dr. Lori's forthcoming book, Beyond The Feminine: The Politics of Skin Colour and Gender in Visual Culture (Bloomsbury, 2024), reflects her deep engagement with race, gender and visual culture. In 2024, she was also featured in the inaugural UK Black Pride Black Lesbian Power List.
