The Contemporary China Centre focuses on interdisciplinary research on China — broadly defined — which is grounded in cultural studies. Our work builds on Westminster’s long-term commitment to Chinese studies at whose heart lies an engagement with Chinese language, cultural practice and production, and its critical analysis.
Projects
The Contemporary China Centre at the University of Westminster undertakes research in Asian Studies.
Our recent projects include:
- China in Uzbekistan: An investigation into the effects of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on trade, migration, and Chinese language education
- Chinese happiness: Analysing the meaning of happiness in contemporary China
- Culture-led urban and rural regeneration: Emerging and innovative forms of culture-led and heritage-led urban and rural strategies, policies, and practices in China
