#WorkingTogether to get ready for the world of work

Thanks to the commitment and engagement of our students, we expanded our Future Ready Mentoring programmes and have been able to provide nearly 1,500 students with mentoring support as they embark on their careers.

Westminster’s Future Ready Mentoring programmes give students the opportunity to connect with experienced alumni to help them develop skills, build networks and gain insights into the world of work.

Ezekiel Eboda, Frances Wireko, Kwabena Owusu Kwarteng and Selin Efraimova Ismetova all had the support and guidance of a mentor through the programme – an alumnus who was there to inspire them and help them succeed.

Ezekiel Eboda, BSc Real Estate student, said: “I had a mentor in my second year who helped me gain a summer internship experience with real estate company Savills, guiding me through the application process and helping me network within the company. Then, in my final year, I was lucky enough to be mentored by a head of HR who gave me tips on what I should do in my interviews. This helped me to obtain graduate offers.

Frances Wireko, MSc Business Intelligence & Analytics graduate, said: “Participating in the Future Ready Mentorship programme has given me a better understanding of the measures I need to take to advance my career.

“Thanks to my mentor's guidance, I secured an internship with the Westminster Communities Consultancy Programme (WCCP) and a volunteering role at the British Heart Foundation. Connecting professionals and students interested in the same field meant my mentor could provide me with industry-specific insights and share her experiences and journey with me.

“When the programme finished, my mentor agreed to continue the relationship and is still actively supporting me in achieving my goals. She shares job roles with me, proofreads my CV and cover letters and helps me prep for interviews. Her unwavering encouragement has boosted my confidence, and I am truly lucky to have been a part of this programme.”

Kwabena Owusu Kwarteng, MSc Financial Technology with Business Analytics graduate, said: “I signed up for the mentoring programme with one clear goal: I wanted to better understand the industry and the job market. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor than Akhilesh. He came in with a great level of insight and willingness to help push me to meet my goal. He helped connect me to relevant industry players and guided me on writing my CV, explaining how best to leverage my work experience and my Westminster degree. I am forever grateful for such a wonderful experience and a great pairing with Akhilesh. I continue to keep in touch with him and he is always willing to support me.”

Selin Efraimova Ismetova, MA International Media Business student, said: “I am so grateful that I matched with Lucas as a mentor. Since our first meeting, we realised that we have similar visions, and this established a positive environment.

“His consistent guidance and support encouraged me to better understand my academic interests overall and have a clear vision for my professional development.

“Lucas was flexible, open-minded, encouraging and willing to share his knowledge. I have gained a strong foundation in an industry that can be confusing and challenging - especially when you are a graduate.

“Overall, this opportunity was extremely beneficial. Future Ready Mentoring made a real difference in my career development.”
