The Westminster Dragons, a sports group at the University of Westminster, spoke about mental health in a YouTube video to help fundraise for the men's mental health organisation Movember.
The University of Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU) reached out to the Dragons to get their view of what mental health means to them, and how people struggling with their mental health can be supported. The UWSU asked members of the Dragons how sport impacts your mental health, what was their perception of men’s mental health and what support they felt the University could give towards helping student mental health.
This video is part of the UWSU’s efforts in fundraising for Movember, a yearly event which takes part throughout November to raise awareness of men’s health, raising money for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide prevention. The Students’ Union also hosted ‘Move for Mo’, with events taking place throughout the month where all students from the University could get involved and fundraise by signing up to the team.
Talking about the fundraising initiative, Olivia Ponsford, Vice-President of Activities, said: “From previous campaigns around Movember, we have seen the importance of raising awareness of men's mental health, even more so in this current climate. The ‘Move for Mo’ challenge felt like a great way to bring together sports, societies and all students to raise money whilst having fun doing so. Despite the campaign running in a virtual capacity, we still successfully raised over £330 and hope that donations will continue to come in.”
