The scholarships are open to exceptional students from a British Muslim background looking to progress onto postgraduate study. The first application cycle is open from 11 January to 31 March with awards being announced from April onwards, and the final deadline to apply is 11 July. Students must apply for the scholarship, and their preferred course separately.

Westminster is committing to support five students through the scholarships which will cover the tuition fees of a Master’s course and will be available from September 2022. The scholarships will be open to students with career aspirations in Media and Journalism, Law, Policy, Technology, Sustainability and Environment, and Creative Content.

Last year the University of Westminster announced its partnership with the Foundation which was founded on a number of core values shared by both organisations from promoting Widening Participation at the postgraduate level to removing barriers to access and success for BME students.

Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over 400 scholarships, amounting to an investment of £5.7m in British Muslim communities.

Talking about the scholarships Sally Olohan, Head of Student Support and Residential Life at Westminster, said: “We’re very excited these scholarships are now open and are looking forward to receiving applications and welcoming new students later in the year. Our purpose at Westminster is to provide grounded, holistic education with wide horizons and opportunities so that people from every background can pursue their career goals and make a contribution to society; this scholarship scheme will help to remove barriers and promote opportunities in a number of fields, so fits in perfectly with that aim.”

Simay Sali Sevik, Development Manager at Westminster, added: “It’s exciting to see the difference being made when two socially responsible organisations join forces. These scholarships have significant importance to provide social justice and we are proud to be partnered with the Aziz Foundation to support this cause.”
