About the event

We hope you will find a home away from home, community over shared beliefs and a warm feeling of togetherness. Chanukah is the Jewish Festival of Lights. While the actual festival this year falls during our winter break, we want to bring our community together to learn about the joys, food, and camaraderie involved and hence have this cafe as an awareness and celebration.

The word 'Chanukah' means 'Dedication' in Hebrew. It celebrates a miracle that happened in Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago.In the spirit of cross-cultural learning and promotion of diversity and inclusivity, this celebratory event is open to all. We welcome colleagues, students, friends, and families from all faiths and none.Expect to immerse yourself in the diverse and vibrant community of the "World in Westminster Café".

Let us come together to celebrate diversity; foster connections; explore different cultures; taste latkes, sufganiyot and other dishes; play dreidel; and create a more respectful world for everyone. The World in Westminster series is part of the QHT EDI Project, “Westminster for All - Equity, Inclusion and Belonging” sponsored by Deputy Vice-chancellor Dibyesh Anand in collaboration with International Student Champions and the Student Union. The World in Westminster Festival series, after nine successful events in 2023/2024, is currently running for the second year. We have run brilliant and inclusive festival events for all, including: Diwali, Chanukah, Yalda Night, Nowruz, Ramadan and Passover.
