As Autumn approaches, we are embracing seasonal produce! Visit our pop-up stalls in our cafes to try some tasty treats that use ingredients often wasted in kitchens.
Cooking and baking are great autumnal activities. Why not try switching to more local and seasonal produce to help the environment? The following are examples of the many fruits and veg in season in October:
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Leeks
- Pak choi
- Squash and pumpkins
Our catering partner, Aramark, will host pop-ups at each campus this month to showcase food from their wipe-out-waste campaign. The food will contain ingredients that typically go to waste within kitchens. Our most popular recipe is the coffee ground brownies. Come along to learn how you can reduce food waste while cooking and try some delicious food.
As a university, we aim to reduce food waste produced on campus. We hope to do this by using innovative recipes and sparking a behaviour change amongst our students and colleagues. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. To learn more about sustainability at the University of Westminster, visit the Sustainable Development web page.
When will they be at each campus?
- New Cavendish campus – Tuesday 15 October, 11am-1pm
- Marylebone campus – Thursday 17 October, 11am-1pm
This is a drop-in activity, so no need to book – just come along!
