The City of Westminster would like to hear from students, who are currently renting private accommodation, on proposals for a selective licensing scheme for privately rented properties in Westminster.
The council is proposing to introduce a selective licensing scheme for privately rented homes in 15 wards in Westminster. If implemented, this will cover all privately rented properties not already covered by their existing HMO licensing schemes (over 44,000 properties).
By implementing a selective licensing scheme, the council is aiming to effectively deal with the poor conditions and antisocial behaviour by requiring landlords to license their property with the council, and meet certain property management conditions.
A public consultation and survey, launched on Thursday 28 October, are currently running until Sunday 19 January 2025. They can be accessed on the council commonplace platform.
As part of the consultation, the council is running an in-person drop-in session on Wednesday 4 December at Marylebone Campus from 11.30am-2pm to assist with any questions and completion of the survey.
All students who currently rent privately are encouraged to pop in anytime from 11.30am to 2pm at Marylebone campus to ask any questions and complete the survey.
