About the session
Homesickness is the pain we experience when we miss home. Being somewhere new brings about discomfort; in this discomfort, you long for something predictable, consistent and stable. Although homesickness is a natural reaction, it may become overwhelming and interrupt daily functioning. Feelings of homesickness are similar to those of anxiety or depression. Your body may be triggered into feeling ‘unsafe’ in a new environment, or you may feel a sense of loss similar to grief.
Using the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), this interactive workshop will explain:
- How homesickness can trigger symptoms of low mood and stress
- How social wellness (creating connections in the community) can help with symptoms of homesickness
- Practical tips to improve and maintain social wellness
This pre-recorded workshop is available from Wednesday October 11th 2023 for a week.
