The University of Westminster is working with Sony to support BAME students and promote careers in the video game and technology industries through the Level Playing Field Scholarship.
The programme provides undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships to students interested in studying Computer Science and Engineering courses.
Abdulrahman Ibrahim, Cyber security and forensics MSc student, is a scholar who has received support from the Level Playing Field Scholarship.
"The scholarship has supported me this year, as, without it, I don't think I would have been able to do as many things. Firstly, having this scholarship, it meant that I did not have to work many hours to finance my studies.
This resulted in me being able to focus on my university experience. I've been able to volunteer for the Travel Society, as the president, which has seen the biggest growth at the university.
I've been able to spend more time focusing on securing a graduate job, which resulted in securing multiple job offers. With the funding from the scholarship, I was able to complete Cyber Security courses that helped develop my knowledge and skills within the field."
As well as the scholarships that SIE provide, they support Computer Games Design Saturday Skills Club which is designed for students aged between 16 and 18. The club aims to introduce new skills and information about the industry and encourage pupils to pursue a career in gaming and computer science.
