A group of postgraduate Politics and International Relations students at the University of Westminster visited the European Parliament liaison office in London on 28 November.

The students were addressed by Susanne Oberhauser, Head of Office, and Typhaine Morillon, Public Affairs Officer. They explained the workings and responsibilities of the liaison office and the European Parliament more broadly and discussed the evolving EU-UK relationship. Susanne and Typhaine also responded to insightful questions posed by the students about the low voter turnout in European Parliament elections, migration and the main challenges currently facing the EU.

International Relations and Security MA student Osman Kamara said: "It was academically fulfilling to visit the European Parliament liaison office in London. Discussions around its operations, policies and politics will be of immense benefit towards my future career aspirations.”

International Relations MA student Shaimaa Elhadidy said: “Participating in the workshop at the European Parliament was really interesting and informative. I especially enjoyed the Q&A session, where the presenters were open to answering our questions from their various perspectives.”

Dr Magdalena Frennhoff Larsén, Assistant Head of the University’s School of Social Sciences, said: “Our central London position gives us easy access to institutions, such as the European Parliament liaison office, where students get to hear first-hand from people who work on the issues that we discuss in the classroom. The visit was particularly topical given the upcoming European Parliament elections in June 2024, and we are very grateful to the Parliament for welcoming us.”
