The University of Westminster hosted the Institute of Directors India during their Annual London Global Convention on Corporate Governance and Sustainability in October 2023.

The three-day convention was attended by a variety of people from across the globe, including policy makers, academics, social thinkers and industry professionals who work within the field of governance and sustainability.

The event was attended by around 60 members of the Institute of Directors India and the University of Westminster community, including President and Vice-Chancellor Peter Bonfield. During a special session on the final day of the convention, several Westminster colleagues and members from the Institute of Directors India shared their thoughts and expertise on the role of boards in promoting economic growth and resilience.

Professor Brendon Noble, Director of the Institute of Urban Healthy Living and Head of the School of Life Sciences at Westminster, opened the event with insights on the changing emphasis of the boardroom in the context of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and the importance of ensuring boards have appropriate tools to navigate the disruption caused by emerging technologies.

Highlights of the event include remarks from Lord Paul and Baroness Sandy Verma, members of the House of Lords, a keynote address from Ashok Kapur, Director General at the Institute of Directors India, and a panel discussion chaired by Jason Loh, CEO and Founder of Piece Future Pte Ltd. and Managing Partner and Co-Founder of True Vine Capital Partners. Professor David Weir, a Professor of Intercultural Management and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Bellmont College, also gave a keynote talk on the topic of New Frameworks for Corporate Resilience and Sustainability.

Speaking about the event, Professor Noble said: “Collaborating with our friends at the Institute of Directors India is always inciteful and a great pleasure. The topic of the day, ESR and the future economy, was extremely timely. Our discussions were both intelligent and energetic and set the scene for exciting and impactful times ahead.  Our boardroom colleagues, academics and dignitaries are ready for positive change and it was an honour to share this moment with them”

Manoj Raut, CEO and Secretary General of the Institute of Directors India, added: “It’s always a pleasure and a special delight to be back at the University of Westminster - our family and a long term fruitful strategic knowledge partner. This is an association which is extremely special for us and we cherish it over the years. Each time we come here we learn so many new things, new global perspectives, discover what we are passionate about and how to embrace change, to build a future-proof strategy, to provide a sounding board for the execution follow-up.”
