This year the official Westminster Season’s Greetings card features the vibrant artwork titled Boogaloo Redux by recent Illustration BA Honours graduate Ashleigh Wilmot.

Boogaloo Redux by Ashleigh Wilmot

Born from a collaboration with a South African musician, it was originally intended as promotion for a dance event. Ashleigh's vision was to create a visual symphony, blending disco, jazz and soul rhythms - all inspired by bold and vibrant elements of 80s’ fashion.

The base of the artwork originated from an experimental print featuring layered folds and textured objects. Through digital collage, she introduced additional colours and textures, resulting in a visually striking patchwork effect. She then used digital collage to introduce colour and even more textures. The focal point of the artwork, an abstracted guitar motif, was deliberately covered by marks. This was intentional as Ashleigh felt it served a dual purpose in the artwork. She felt that it not only contributed to the dynamic nature of the piece but also symbolised the melding of instruments within a musical composition.

In Ashleigh's own words: “Boogaloo Redux exemplifies what I adore about art—the challenge and power of translating the intangible into the tangible.” This sentiment reveals the deep connection she sees between art and the human experience, looking at creativity not just as expression but as humanity's way of contributing to the grand canvas of life itself.

While reflecting on her educational journey at Westminster, Ashleigh, who is currently pursuing a career as a Children’s Book Illustrator, expressed: “My time at Westminster fills me with gratitude for the growth I experienced both personally and artistically. I feel deeply honoured to have my work selected for this year's Christmas card. It has been a surreal and exciting experience. As an artist, my reason for existence is to uplift and inspire people - to create art that is both innovative and meaningful. To have my artwork appreciated in this way is a true Christmas gift.”

She continued: “Ultimately, Boogaloo Redux is an artwork centred around celebration. A celebration of all that unites us. My hope is that those who see it are inspired to celebrate and embrace the festive spirit. I already know what I'll be celebrating.”

This year's card was produced digitally and in a limited print run on paper stock accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC).
