Lekan’s appointment comes as part of an effort to boost the sports sector in Nigeria and support rising sporting talent. Lekan is a renowned development expert and youth advocate and brings over 18 years of experience in international development and diplomacy to the role.

Lekan has worked previously as the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu advising on the Sustainable Development Goals, where he worked on projects to alleviate poverty, conserve the environment and further social equality. He was previously the lead consultant at CheckOut Communications Ltd, and the producer of an entrepreneurship forum, the Africa Shapers Initiative. Lekan has received several awards for his professional successes, including being named Most Outstanding Entrepreneur by Strides Media UK and recognised for his Outstanding Achievement and Exemplary Public Endeavours by the University of Lagos Alumni Association.

In his new role, Lekan will be focusing on using sport to grow talent and push for greater social inclusion and gender equality. He has already organised a huge donation drive of sporting equipment for aspiring young athletes to support their growth and development.

He will contribute toward several development goals of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were adopted by the University of Westminster to help make the University a more sustainable, responsible and inclusive place to live, work and study.
