The University of Westminster is one of the top UK universities for international students, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Westminster has been known for its diverse, international student population. The University is in the top 20 in the UK and in the top 30 globally for international students, with 48% of Westminster students classed as international.

For international outlook, the 2024 edition of the prestigious rankings puts Westminster to 68th place among UK universities and 164th out of 1,904 universities worldwide. The rankings cover 108 countries and regions globally.

The University’s Research Quality and Research Environment were also recognised in the top half of the league table, speaking to the excellent results achieved during the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.

With more than 6,800 international students from 156 countries, colleagues from across the globe and a highly international alumni community, Westminster embraces global engagement in all its forms. The University has a rich mix of international partnerships worldwide, and places particular emphasis on providing international opportunities for students.

Development of cross-cultural communication and understanding is promoted and supported through the Polylang language programme. Students can choose to study languages such as Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Italian, French, Japanese, German and Russian, and various levels are catered for.

Undergraduate students can undertake a study abroad semester or year at an international partner institution, and many postgraduate and undergraduate courses include international field trips as part of their study experience, with notable recent destinations such as Brussels, New York, Brazil and Argentina.

Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) is another programme that reflects the University’s international outlook, giving students the opportunity to experience professional environments and cultures across the globe, through interaction with Westminster alumni and professional contacts.

In April and June 2023 almost 100 Westminster students took part in international trips through WWC visiting Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Milan or Singapore.

Commenting on the ranking, Professor Dibyesh Anand, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability, said: "We are delighted that the global character, ethos and engagements of our University have been recognised. We are strongly committed to giving global experience to our home students, helping international students feel valued, and making everyone flourish."
