The University of Westminster’s Alumni Relations team hosted the Westminster Alumni Volunteers Celebration Event on Tuesday 5 September to award and celebrate the outstanding contributions of the University’s alumni volunteers.

The networking and social event celebrated alumni volunteers who have given their time to support the professional development and career prospects of students and recent graduates across a huge variety of activities including mentoring, guest talks and work experience programmes.

As part of the event, the winners of the Alumni Volunteering Awards and Future Ready Mentoring Awards winners were announced. These annual awards recognise outstanding contributions from individual volunteers and mentors, and the event gave the University a chance to celebrate these individuals in person.

The Alumni Mentor of the Year award went to Yami Trequesser; Non-Alumni Mentor of the Year to Sarah Williamson; International Mentor of the Year to Zipporah Anuga; Outstanding Support Mentors of the Year to Anna Vye, Andree Massiah, Stella Odunaike and Jennifer Omadoye; and Ask a Mentor Mentor of the Year to Karl English.

Talking about the Mentoring Awards, Zurria Qureshi, the University of Westminster’s Mentoring Manager, said: “Our volunteers continue to leave a lasting impact on our students’ lives and we are so proud to have such a thriving mentoring community at the University of Westminster. Congratulations to all our Mentor of the Year Award winners for their outstanding contributions and a huge thank you to all our mentors who continue to inspire the next generation through our Future Ready Mentoring programmes.”

Speaking about the generosity of Westminster’s alumni volunteers, Laura Hughes, University of Westminster’s Head of Alumni Relations, said: “The generosity of our alumni and partners never ceases to amaze us. Over the past year, our volunteers have collectively given thousands of hours’ worth of time and expertise to support the development of our current students and recent graduates, be it through mentoring, careers talks, work shadowing experiences and so much more. We are incredibly grateful to all our volunteers who have lent their support – thank you to each and every one of you.”
