Damien Ridge, Professor of Health Studies, has been featured in a video for the Times Higher Education (THE) Campus blog along with University partners providing tips to Higher Education staff on how they can best support colleagues suffering from long COVID.

The video features Professor Ridge, Dr Ana Leite from the University of Durham and Professor Nisreen Alwan from the University of Southampton.

Speaking about why those with long COVID may find returning to work difficult, Professor Ridge said in the video: “Recent research by Jenny Lunt and colleagues in the UK suggests that those living with long COVID report difficulties returning to work for a range of reasons like the unpredictability of their symptoms, trying to juggle symptom management and work demands as well as unhelpful mindsets and expectations at work.”

In the video, Professor Ridge speaks about how those experiencing symptoms of long COVID may require reasonable adjustments when returning to work. However, the condition is still new, and often not well understood by employers.

Dr Leite and Professor Alwan then go on to provide a number of useful tips to university employees on how to best support colleagues with long COVID upon their return to work.
