Support for LGBT Students

Where to get support

Being a student can be both a fun and stressful time, and LGBT students may have additional concerns, such as worries about coming out or reconciling their sexuality with their identity and/or gender.

Our support teams and the Students' Union are here to offer you help and guidance if you need it:

  • The Students' Union's LGBTI+ Society provides a supportive network and organises regular events
  • Our Counselling Service offers confidential support and guidance
  • Our libraries have various books on LGBT subjects that you might find useful
  • Our Career Development Centre offers advice on your rights as an LGBT person entering the workplace and provides an online diversity guide, as well as holding copies of the Stonewall publication ‘Starting Out’ in its library

To help ensure that all students and staff are able to achieve their full potential at the University, we have a diversity and dignity at work and study policy below.
