We wish a very happy Hanukkah (Chanukah) to all of our Jewish colleagues, students, alumni and friends celebrating.

Hanukkah, the eight-day-long Jewish festival, also known as the Festival of Lights, sees Jewish people across the globe light an extra candle each night, on an eight-branched menorah. The holiday commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire.

The holiday begins on the 25th day of Kislev, the ninth month of the lunar year on the Hebrew calendar. This year, the holiday begins at nightfall on Thursday 7 December on the Western calendar and continues until nightfall on Friday 15 December.

We wish a very happy Hanukkah (Chanukah) to our students, colleagues, alumni and friends who are celebrating the holiday.
