About the event

Artificial intelligence will likely be at the forefront of public technological discourse in the years to come. While AI can be a force for good, experts have also highlighted its potential risks.

In particular, experts in academia and the industry are discussing the technical and legal aspects connected to the protection of vulnerable individuals and groups when developing and deploying advanced analytics, machine learning, and other AI solutions.

In this fireside chat, internationally-renown academics and industry leaders will explore and tackle the issue of individual and group vulnerability in AI development, starting from the closest regulatory regime for the protection of fundamental rights in technology, i.e., personal data protection, to then explore how data scientists can leverage these regulatory requirements to produce an artificial intelligence that minimizes the risk of harm and discrimination.

This event will provide expert knowledge as well as lay the groundwork for improved cross-sectoral communication and understanding (legal/technical, academic/industry) for students, young professionals, and more experienced professionals.

All are welcome. The event will be held in person and online – in-person attendance is encouraged for networking purposes.

The event will be held at the University of Westminster, Cavendish Campus, 115 New Cavendish St, London W1W 6UW (room: The Pavilion).
