How to apply

Find a course

There are two main ways to look through our courses:

Applying for a full-time degree

How to apply

If you need help applying, please email or call 0207 911 5000 ext 65511.

Applying for one of our undergraduate courses is simple – just click on the red 'Apply' button at the top of our course pages. You will be directed to the UCAS website (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) to make your application.

Everyone applying for a full-time degree must apply through UCAS - this includes international students.

On the UCAS website, you will fill in a UCAS application form and choose a maximum of five courses and five universities.

You can save your UCAS application at any point and return to it later.

Universities will not be able to see where else you've applied until after they've made you an offer.

Full details on completing your application are provided on the UCAS website.

What you need to apply

To fill out your application, you'll need:

  • UCAS codes for the courses you're applying for. You can find these codes on the relevant course pages, next to the red 'Apply' button.
  • UCAS institution code for the University of Westminster - W50
  • Evidence of any existing qualifications and also any predicted results
  • A reference
  • A personal statement

Your personal statement gives you the chance to explain why you're interested in our courses, why you'll be a great student, and why we should choose you. We use it to decide whether we'd like to offer you a place, so make sure yours stands out!

Remember, every university you apply to will receive the same personal statement, so don't mention any institutions by name.

If the courses you're applying to are in different subject areas, avoid mentioning them by name. Instead, talk about your general skills and motivations, such as problem solving or creativity. In addition to your academic studies, you can also include extracurricular activities, such as hobbies and interests, internships, voluntary work, part-time work, sports, etc.

Entry requirements

Our entry requirements are different for every course, so please check individual course pages for the grades you'll need to study with us.

For international students, please first check the entry requirements tab on the course page, if your qualifications are not listed please check our country pages or contact our course enquiries team at .

If you do not meet the normal requirements of the programme, please contact course enquiries, as we may still be able to consider your application.

English language requirements

The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores.

If your first language is not English, you will usually need a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum 5.5 in each element, or a Westminster-recognised equivalent English language qualification. For some courses, the minimum IELTS score will be higher, so please check individual course pages.

You do not need to take the IELTS test before applying, but before joining the course you will need to have attained one of the minimum test scores listed on our English language requirements page.

Pre-sessional English courses

If you're struggling to reach the required English level, consider enrolling on one of our pre-sessional English courses.

For more details on the English language courses and support we offer, visit our English language support page.

Interviews, portfolios and additional requirements

Please check the entry requirements on individual course pages to find out if an interview, portfolio or assessment is required for your course. If this is the case, we'll let you know what and how you need to prepare via email.

For further information, contacts your admissions office.

Preparation courses for students without the required qualifications

If you've finished your secondary education, but your qualifications don't allow you to attend university, a Foundation Certificate or foundation year can help you access an undergraduate degree.

Foundation year

Many of our degrees include the option for a foundation year. These are aimed at students who don't have the right qualifications, who want to change their specialism, or who are returning to study after an absence, to access a higher level course. Successful completion of the foundation year leads to entry to the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Us our course search to find a foundation degree.

Foundation Certificate

For international students, our partner college Kaplan International College London offers a Foundation Certificate leading to entry to a broad range of our Bachelor's degrees.

To find out more and apply, visit the Kaplan International College London website.

If you've studied previously or want to transfer

If you’ve already studied part of a degree elsewhere or have relevant work experience, you may be able to join a degree course part-way through. This is known as advanced entry.

If you'd like to request advanced entry, you'll need to state this clearly on your UCAS application form in the ‘point of entry’ section.

For more information, visit our recognition of prior learning pages.

Fees, funding and scholarships

You can find the fees for undergraduate degrees in the fees and funding section of our course pages.

For available scholarships and other funding options, see our fees and funding pages.

Students with additional requirements

Students with disabilities

We encourage applications from students with disabilities and consider all applications on academic grounds. If you have a disability that might affect your studies, please indicate this clearly on your application form.

The procedure for admission of disabled applicants is in accordance with the legislative requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, and you may be invited for an interview to discuss whether any special arrangements or equipment you need can be provided.

Some courses might be unsuitable for applicants with particular disabilities. If you are applying late, for example through UCAS Clearing, you may be required to defer for a year to allow the University to make reasonable adjustments.

For more information, please visit our Disability Learning Support pages.

Care leavers

To help you settle in, we've developed a guidance and support package tailored especially for care leavers.

For more information, have a look at our care leavers pages.

Applicants with a criminal record

We believe an unspent criminal conviction should not automatically prevent an individual from studying at the University of Westminster. Disclosing a criminal conviction is not a requirement of an application to study at the University and applicants will only ever be assessed on their academic suitability.

The exception to this are students who require a visa to study in the UK, who are required to disclose this information as part of the visa application process.

For further information, please see our guidance for those with criminal convictions.
