This page provides details on how an apprentice and their employer can apply for a place on an apprenticeship at the University. It includes information on eligibility requirements, the application process and key deadlines for applying to start an apprenticeship in September 2024.
For apprentices
If you're already employed in a relevant role or if you're holding a job offer for a relevant role that is due to start on or before 13 September 2024, please ask your employer to complete our enquiry form.
We'll then arrange a time to speak with your employer to confirm that they can support you throughout the duration of the apprenticeship and meet the University's criteria for being one of our employer partners.
Once this is confirmed, you'll be sent a link to an online application form which you'll need to complete and submit.
If you're not in suitable employment but would like to view apprenticeship vacancies from our employer partners, please register to join our mailing list for vacancy alerts.
Please submit your application as soon as possible as applications will be considered as they are received. There are a limited number of places on our apprenticeship programmes and we may need to close applications if our apprenticeship programmes become full. The final deadline for submitting an application is provided below.
For employers
If you are interested in sending one of your staff to study on an apprenticeship programme at the University, your organisation needs to be accepted by us as an employer partner. Details on what we require from our employer partners can be found below:
The process for employers registering apprentices at the University is outlined below.

- Step 1 - Find a suitable programme using the table on our apprenticeship page for employers
- Step 2 - Complete our enquiry form to arrange a call with us
- Step 3 - Discuss your training requirements, our requirements of employer partners and our programmes in more detail on the call

- Step 5 - If accepted, ask your chosen candidates to submit an application. Applicants can apply if they will be employed by you on or before 13 September 2024
Please encourage your candidates to submit their applications as soon as possible as applications will be considered as they are received. Eligibility requirements
Please refer to the University of Westminster Admissions Policy for a framework on how the University selects and admits students.
Our academic entry requirements are different for every apprenticeship, so please check individual apprenticeship course pages for the qualifications and grades you'll need to study with us.
If you do not meet the academic entry requirements of the programme, please contact us, as we may still be able to consider your application.
Our apprenticeships are only available to those employed as part of an agreed apprenticeship scheme in a related role, who are aged 18 or over on the first day of the apprenticeship, are not in full-time education and meet the ESFA funding eligibility criteria.
To be eligible for funding apprentices must:
- have the right to work and study in England
- be in relevant employment and work for a minimum of 30 hours per week. The employment contract must cover the entire duration of the apprenticeship including the End Point Assessment period.
- spend at least 50% of their working hours in England over the duration of the apprenticeship. This also applies to remote and hybrid workers
- have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the apprenticeship start date. Please refer to Annex A of the ESFA funding rules for further details on residency eligibility and exceptions
- only apply if the apprenticeship leads to substantive new skills and if learning is materially different from any prior qualifications
- not be enrolled on another apprenticeship or any other funded further or higher education programme at the same time
- where applicable, have a visa that covers the entire duration of the apprenticeship including End Point Assessment
- not be asked to financially contribute to the cost of the apprenticeship*
Detailed information on apprenticeship funding eligibility is available in the ESFA funding rules.
*Some courses offer optional additional activities that incur an additional cost such as field trips. These are optional, and employers and apprentices will be made aware of any additional costs at the earliest opportunity. These activities are not included in the training plan.
Apprentices with additional requirements
Apprentices with disabilities
We encourage applications from learners with disabilities and consider all applications on academic grounds. If you have a disability that might affect your studies, please indicate this clearly on your application form.
The procedure for admission of disabled applicants is in accordance with the legislative requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, and you may be invited for an interview to discuss whether any special arrangements or equipment you need can be provided.
Some courses might be unsuitable for applicants with particular disabilities. If you are applying late, you may be required to defer for a year to allow the University to make reasonable adjustments.
For more information, please visit our Disability Learning Support pages.
Care leavers
To help you settle in, we've developed a guidance and support package tailored especially for care leavers.
For more information, have a look at our care leavers pages.
As a care leaver you may be eligible for the care leaver bursary. For more details, read the apprenticeships care leavers' bursary guidance on GOV.UK.
Applicants with a criminal record
We believe an unspent criminal conviction should not automatically prevent an individual from studying at the University of Westminster. Disclosing a criminal conviction is not a requirement of an application to study at the University and applicants will only ever be assessed on their academic suitability.
The exception to this are students who require a visa to study in the UK, who are required to disclose this information as part of the visa application process.
For further information, please see our guidance for those with criminal convictions.
